The grandchild route remains relevant, but Organic Law 1/2026 introduced materially expanded language, culture, history, civics, declaration, criminal and security conditions for new applications. Transitional treatment may also depend on whether an application was already pending when the reform took effect on 19 May 2026.
Some official operational pages and forms may still be in transition. For that reason, the platform collects the lineage and evidence but does not issue an automated legal approval. A Portuguese lawyer or solicitador must review the pinned sources and the individual facts before a customer relies on a conclusion or a professional submission is made.
